Nicolas Pepe has been warned to up his consistency following his performance against Dundalk in the Europa League.
The winger scored a fine goal in the 3-0 win, controlling a loose ball on the edge of the box and managing to fire the ball home despite being surrounded by defenders.
Yet he blew hot and cold against a determined Irish side, at one point infuriating Gunners fans by firing a corner straight into the side netting with the scores at 0-0 and his side struggling to break down a resolute defence.
Arsenal's record signing improved as the game opened up and added the gloss to the victory with their third goal.
Yet Martin Keown says Pepe has to do more to justify his price tag following his 2019 move from Lille.
Speaking to BT Sport, former Gunners defender Keown pointed to Mikel Arteta's ruthless axing of Mesut Ozil from Arsenal's squad as proof the manager is not afraid to cut loose players who are underperforming and warned that Pepe could face a similar fate if he does not get the best out of himself.
He said: "These are the moments from Pepe that we were expecting when he first arrived.
"We haven’t seen enough from this player, and it is, how can you get the best?
"We’ve all talked about Ozil not being around and the manager saying he failed the player.
"What about Pepe now? We’re moving onto the next generation.
"How do you get the best from him, and is he getting the best from himself?
"We saw that little bit of magic there, he’s creative, he’s got the technique, but it’s about bringing those out in key moments for Arsenal."
