Nicolas Pepe emulates Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez after goals against Vitoria

Nicolas Pepe's brace of free-kicks not only sealed three important points for Arsenal against Vitoria, but equalled a record which has stood for six years.

The Gunners trailed 2-1 in the second half after goals from former Tottenham midfielder Marcus Edwards and Bruno Duarte.

But a Gabriel Martinelli effort, coupled with Pepe's two goals meant Arsenal completed a stunning comeback and maintained their perfect record in this season's Europa League group stage.

Speaking after the game, Unai Emery praised Pepe and says there is more to come from the club's record signing.

"New players usually need time for that adaptation and Pepe is a good player we believe in totally," he said.

"He’s improving and tonight his two goals were very important. We are very happy for him.

"He was trying a lot of set pieces last week and I was expecting him to shoot after that.

"I think the most important is the three points and how individual players can improve."

According to Opta, the Ivorian's goals means he is the first player to score two direct free-kicks in a Europa League game since Luis Suarez for Liverpool.

The former Reds striker achieved the feat in February 2013 against Zenit St. Petersburg. Liverpool beat the Russian side 3-1 on the night at Anfield but went out on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate draw.

In the Champions League, Cristiano Ronaldo achieved the same feat in September 2009 while Gareth Bale did it in February 2013.
