Nicolas Pepe drops Arsenal team news hint over Mikel Arteta's starting XI vs Southampton

Arsenal take on Ralph Hasenhüttl's struggling Southampton side this afternoon in the hope of getting back to winning ways.

A combination of poor technical security within the middle third, the inability to win second balls and questionable in-game management from manager Mikel Arteta prevented the Gunners from taking a single point against both Manchester United and Everton.

It's therefore imperative that the north Londoners produce a desirable performance and clinch three points at the Emirates today.

Whilst Arteta will be slightly concerned with the goals that have been conceded of late, the major worries still revolve around the frontline and the lack of consistent attacking patterns.

Arsenal currently sit on a negative four-goal difference, with senior strikers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette both struggling with their form.

Despite this, £72 million club-record signing Nicolas Pepe has appeared to drop down the pecking order, with Eddie Nketiah given minutes ahead of him from the bench in Arsenal's last two games, despite the fact that the 22-year-old Englishman has rejected a new deal.

Whilst it's clearly apparent that Pepe struggles to fit into a system that adopts positional play and instead is tailored to a team that plays counter-attacking football, the former Lille forward has demonstrated the ability to influence proceedings in moments through either goals or assists in Arsenal colours.

Given the fact that Arsenal are struggling within the final third, perhaps he could be the man to make the difference.

Interestingly, his latest activity of social media, via his Instagram account, could be a hint that he might just be in today's starting eleven.

If Pepe is to start, it will be the first time in which he's received minutes since October 30, where he was brought on in the 85th minute against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
