Nicolas Pepe apologises to Arsenal fans, players and coaches for red card

Arsenal forward Nicolas Pepe says he is “deeply sorry” following his red card against Leeds United and added there is “no excuses” for his behaviour.

Pepe was sent off during Sunday’s goalless draw at Elland Road after he butted heads with Leeds’ Ezgjan Alioski.

Referee Anthony Taylor initially missed the clash but was alerted to it by VAR and, after watching it again on the pitch-side monitor, showed Pepe a red card in the 51st minute.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said after the match that the Ivorian forward’s actions were “unacceptable” and he had let the team down.

Pepe has now accepted he made an error and on Monday night he took to social media to apologise.

“Yesterday I have let my team down at a crucial time of the game and there is no excuses for my behaviour,” Pepe wrote on Instagram.

“I am deeply sorry and would like to apologise to the fans, my team-mates, my coach and everyone else at the club.”
