Nicolas Otamendi's two-word message over incident with Leeds United's Raphinha

Leeds United's increasingly prized asset Raphinha was smashed in the face while playing for Brazil against Argentina last night and his assailant is showing no contrition.

The 24-year-old winger Raphinha was in the starting eleven for the World Cup qualifier when he got an elbow in the face from Argentina defender Nicolas Otamendi.

Fans were outraged on social media when the elbow didn't result in a red card, despite a VAR check, especially after the video showed that Raphinha was bleeding and in need of stitches.

Now Otamendi has responded however, and it seems he is without contrition. His response came when Argentine sports channel TyC Sports put a photo up on their Instagram of him elbowing Raphinha.

Otamendi commented in Spanish below. The translation was: "All ball."

He added an emoji of a dancing man, just in case the tone wasn't clear.

The governing body of South American football, CONMEBOL, did not see the funny side however and has suspended the referee and VAR referee indefinitely for not sufficiently punishing Otamendi for 'violent conduct'.

Brazil had already qualified, but the 0-0 result meant that Argentina qualified too, becoming the second South American team to qualify for the tournament, which takes place in Qatar next year.

Despite the bang, Raphinha seemed to get over it pretty quickly, as he was later seen on a private jet with some of his fellow Brazil players returning to the UK and Premier League duty.

The photograph was posted by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson on social media. Also in the picture were Liverpool player Fabinho, Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, City's Gabriel Jesus, and Manchester United midfielder Fred.

It was clear from the photo that Raphinha has made himself at home among the superstars.
