Nicolas Jackson: Chelsea ready to sell striker with Newcastle and Tottenham interested

Surplus: Nicolas Jackson - (AP)

Chelsea are ready to explore the sale of Nicolas Jackson before the end of the transfer window.

Jackson was left out of the Blues squad for their friendly with Bayer Leverkusen amid uncertainty over his future.

The striker has been deemed surplus to requirements and is keen to assess exit options, with Tottenham and Newcastle registering an interest in the Senegal forward.

Tottenham are known to be fans of Jackson, but they would only consider a move should Richarlison leave the club this summer.

The Brazilian, who struggled with injuries and form last season, has rejected interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Newcastle are also interested in Jackson as they identify potential replacements for Alexander Isak, who is heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.

Speaking this week, Blues head coach Enzo Maresca refused to rule out the possibility of Jackson leaving Stamford Bridge.

“When the transfer window is open, unfortunately or fortunately, anything can happen. This also involves Nico’s situation,” Maresca said.

“At the moment we also had two strikers arrive, Joao [Pedro] and Liam [Delap]. So we will see what happens.”

The Magpies have had a frustrating summer, missing out on a number of key targets, but are continuing to push for a deal for Yoane Wissa.

They appear to have lost out to Man United in the race for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, and have now turned their attention to Jackson.

The 23-year-old scored 10 Premier League goals last season but has fallen down the pecking order following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

Chelsea are now prepared to part with Jackson as they look to sanction departures following another busy summer of spending.

Maresca's side have spent over £200 million as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League next season.

The Blues have managed to offset much of their spending by selling a number of first-team players, and it remains to be seen how much they will want for Jackson.

Djordje Petrovic, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Noni Madueke, Joao Felix, Ishe Samuels-Smith, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Armando Broja have all been sold this summer.

Jackson is suspended for the first game of the Premier League season, having been sent off for violent conduct against Newcastle.
