Nicola Sturgeon will demand Boris Johnson agrees to IndyRef2 before Christmas

Nicola Sturgeon will officially demand Boris Johnson greenlights indyref2 before Christmas.

The First Minister today set out more detail on her plan to hold a second independence referendum in the wake of Brexit chaos .

MSPs are already considering legislation that would lay the groundwork for another historic vote – but Sturgeon needs permission from the UK Government to make it legal.

Speaking at Holyrood, she said: “I can confirm today that, during the passage of the Bill, we will seek agreement to the transfer of power that will put the referendum beyond legal challenge.

“We have a clear democratic mandate to offer the choice of independence within this term of Parliament - and we intend to do so.”

But Scots Tory interim leader Jackson Carlaw shot back: “It’s typical of the First Minister that her statement both began and ended with independence.

“It really is the be-all-and-end-all for her nationalist government.”

He added: “The people of Scotland have had enough of this. They simply want Nicola Sturgeon to give it a rest.”

Scots voted 55 per cent to 45 per cent against independence in 2014.
