The First Minister asked Scotland to "no longer contact their GP with COVID-19 concerns" as demand for NHS 24 begins to slow.
Instead, she reassured people that if you are worried about "worsening symptoms" you should wait to be referred to a community hub or assessment centre via the 111 line.
Nicola Sturgeon also stressed that for most people the "NHS Inform" website should be the first place to go."
She advised that any other medical condition which is not related to coronavirus should still be dealt with through a GP practice.
Nicola Sturgeon addressed the strains that coronavirus fears have put on the NHS 24 line, saying that at first they received almost "12,000 calls."
However, the First Minister reassured the people of Scotland that this figure is "slowly decreasing."
On Friday, the service recorded just over 4,000 calls from people worried about COVID-19 symptoms.
Nicola Sturgeon also revealed that only around five percent of these calls resulted in a 999 call being placed.
65 percent were referred to a triage for further assistance, while 30 percent were told to manage symptoms at home.
