Nicola Sturgeon urges Margaret Ferrier to resign as disgraced MP 'refuses to quit'

Nicola Sturgeon has made another call for under-fire MP Margaret Ferrier to call it quits after she made trips between Scotland and Westminster, despite having COVID symptoms and later testing positive for the virus.

It was also revealed that the now suspended MP attended a church service with COVID-19, but Ferrier told the Scottish Sun she has 'no plans to resign' and even blamed the virus for the way she behaved.

Speaking with Sky News' Sophie Ridge On Sunday show, Nicola Sturgeon said this morning that the MP's behaviour was "unacceptable" and said she "should resign."

But the MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West told the paper that she still has lots of support locally and that COVID had caused her to 'panic and act out of character'.

Nicola Sturgeon told Sky News," I couldn't be clearer, she should step down from Parliament.

"The lapse of judgment in travelling hundreds of miles knowing she had tested positive for COVID-19 was so significant and so unacceptable that I don't think there is any other acceptable course of action for her.

"I've read her comments in the media today but I still hope she will do the right thing.

"Every day, I have to stand and ask people across the country to do horrendously difficult things, to not visit their loved ones, and right now I'm asking people to understand why they can't go to a pub or a restaurant.

"And it is unacceptable that somebody in her position flagrantly disregarded the rules like that and I cannot be clearer about that.

"It is not acceptable and she should resign.''

Breaking her silence to the Sun, the 60 year-old MP said 'she won't quit' and that she has apologised profusely.

The MP, who earns £80,000 a year said that contracting COVID had made her "act out of character" and that she was shocked to find out that her "tickly throat" was actually COVID while she was in London.

Miss Ferrier said she then 'panicked' and returned on a a train to Scotland.
