Nicola Sturgeon update: Where is the First Minister today and why is there no Covid briefing?

Nicola Sturgeon is appearing elsewhere today, with the usual Scottish Government coronavirus update cancelled.

Now a regular fixture of our afternoons, the First Minister has appeared hundreds of times since the start of the pandemic with her daily updates.

As well as all the latest Covid stats, the Nicola Sturgeon usually updates Scots on the crisis several times a week.

But there is to be no briefing today as the First Minister has been called to appear in front of a Scottish Parliament committee.

Where is Nicola Sturgeon today?

Instead of her usual daily update, where she also takes questions from the media, Nicola Sturgeon is appearing in parliament.

She has been taking questions from MSPs on the Scottish Parliament's special coronavirus committee, which was set up to oversee the government's response to the crisis.

The FM will be questioned by politicians in detail about the response and how she is managing the health emergency.

Chief medical officer Dr Gregor Smith will be appearing alongside Ms Sturgeon to face questions.

The committee is specifically looking at the next steps in the pandemic, and the amendment of the laws in place to allow for the restrictions we are currently living under.

When is the next briefing?

There will be no briefing on Thursday either, with Nicola Sturgeon appearing in parliament again to take part in the weekly session of First Minister's Questions.

You can watch the parliament committee here.
