Nicola Sturgeon tunes into Ayrshire DJ's lockdown garden gig

An Irvine DJ won the unlikeliest of fans during his latest lockdown garden gig on Saturday – Scotland’s First Minister.

Elliot Boyce has pumped out dance anthems from his back yard in Girdle Toll for the last two weekends.

His sessions have proved a massive hit, with tens of thousands tuning in to watch and listen online.

But he was stunned to hear Nicola Sturgeon was among them after the SNP leader's sister Gill left a comment on his Facebook live feed. Gill said: “First Minister tuning in from home!”

Elliot wasted no time in giving the First Minister a shout out over the mic.

He said: ”It was great to hear that the live stream had spread to the First Minister and I hope she enjoyed the music and heard her shout out!

“I’d like to imagine she was enjoying a drink or two in Bute House whilst dancing along to my tunes."

Elliot has decided to use his weekly gigs to raise money for Irvine’s community hubs. He raised £465 at the weekend.

He has change his weekly two-hour set to an earlier slot after noise abatement officers visited his home to alert him to four complaints about the noise generated.

He said: “I’m keen to work with everyone so nobody feels put out by this. That’s the last thing I want to do.

“I’ve agreed to start playing from 4.30pm instead of 6.30pm and will be wrapping up at 6.30pm instead of 8.30pm.

“I’ll be reducing the volume too to accommodate everyone and keep everyone happy. In these difficult times, everyone needs to work together and stick together.

“I’m doing this for positive reasons only. I want to raise people’s spirits and get the message across to people to stay at home during the lockdown.

“I’ve been blown away by the overall response to what I’m doing and I want people to keep enjoying it.”
