Nicola Sturgeon to make statement on household gatherings and review face covering rules today

Scotland's ban on household gathering is scheduled to be reviewed today.

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed she will update the Scottish Parliament on the latest position, although cautioned, it's unlikely to be lifted.

She's also expected to introduce tougher rules on the wearing on face coverings and is said to be considering travel restrictions ahead of her statement to MSPs this afternoon.

Ms Sturgeon has also said she's hoping to introduce a new three-tier coronavirus alert system, similar to the one imposed in England this week.

She explained it could take over when the current temporary restrictions end in Scotland on October 25.

The move comes as coronavirus cases continue to soar across the country, 1,429 new cases reported yesterday.

The death toll also rose to 2,572 with the sad news that 15 more people have lost their lives to the virus.
