Nicola Sturgeon will announce whether they will extend Scotland lockdown tomorrow

Nicola Sturgeon will give an update to the Scottish Parliament tomorrow on whether Scotland's national lockdown will extend beyond the end of January.

Scots were told the national lockdown would be in place for at least four weeks and tomorrow, Tuesday 19 January, the First Minister will announce whether the restrictions will continue into February.

Parents across Scotland are also expecting an update around school closures and whether they will also continue.

Currently, pupils are learning from home until February 1, however it is still unclear as to whether this will be extended for longer as new strains of coronavirus are reportedly more transmissible between younger age groups.

With hospital numbers also rising in recent days, it is expected that national lockdown could continue for at least a few more weeks.

Nicola Sturgeon says she will give a statement to parliament tomorrow following the cabinet's review of the current restrictions.

Her cabinet will consider whether the restrictions need to be extended and she will then report the decision at Holyrood during First Minister's Questions.
