Nicola Sturgeon to broadcast daily on-camera coronavirus briefings

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced she will be hosting daily on-camera briefings to update Scots on the coronavirus crisis.

The SNP leader confirmed at an on-the-record briefing that she will be joined by a range of ministers and experts on screen to discuss the spread, measures being taken and the NHS response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As reported by BBC's Lorna Gordon, Sturgeon said "key" frontline NHS workers will be tested for the virus. There are no plans to close schools across Scotland, though the situation is "under constant review."

Discussions are underway regarding advice to be given to people with significantly compromised immune systems, when to isolate entire households and the older population.

Sturgeon said it is not her aim to achieve “herd immunity” and the plan is to reduce the impact of infection.

There have been 153 cases of coronavirus so far in Scotland.

More than half of Glaswegians think that schools and workplaces should close over to the coronavirus.

A survey found that more than 72 per cent believe that there should be stricter measures in place to protect the public.
