Nicola Sturgeon to hold covid update today as cases surge across Scotland

Nicola Sturgeon is set to hold a coronavirus briefing later today as cases continue to surge across the country.

The First Minister will address the nation in the second media briefing of the week.

Case numbers have doubled in the last week with hospital and intensive care admissions also on the rise as things return to normal.

The SNP leader will lead the briefing and give an update on the situation which has deteriorated over the course of the last week.

Yesterday, the Scottish Government announced 4,925 new cases in the last 24 hours while there were 14 deaths recorded over the same time period.

There are currently 426 people in Scottish hospitals battling the virus, with 47 being treated in intensive care.

Some 4,092,295 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,617,687 have received their second dose in Scotland.

What time is the briefing?

The Scottish Government's briefing is set to start at 12.15pm

Nicola Sturgeon will lead the briefing and will be joined by National Clinical Director Jason Leitch.

Following an opening statement the First Minister and Jason Leitch will take questions from members of the press.

Where can I watch?

The covid-19 statement will be shown on a number of platforms.
