Nicola Sturgeon to hold covid briefing today - here's what time and how to watch it

Nicola Sturgeon will hold a coronavirus briefing later today as Scotland prepares to ease restrictions tomorrow.

The First Minister will be joined by National Clinical Director Jason Leitch for the briefing this afternoon.

Glasgow is set to move to Level 2 from tomorrow following an extended period under Level 3 restrictions. Meanwhile, large parts of the rest of the country will move down to Level 1 measures.

The changes in Glasgow would mean restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars can open indoors and serve alcohol until 10:30pm with two-hour pre-booked slots.

Four deaths of people who tested positive for the virus were recorded yesterday, while there were 835 new cases in the past 24 hours.

The death toll under this measurement is now 7,674.

A total of 110 people were in hospital yesterday - four down for the previous day, while eight patients were in intensive care.

What time will the announcement be made at?

Nicola Sturgeon is expected to deliver the briefing live from St Andrews House in Edinburgh at 12.15pm today.

Where can I watch it?

The briefing will be broadcast live on the BBC One Scotland channel as well as the Scottish Government Twitter page.

What is she expected to say?

The First Minister is expected to confirm the move to ease restrictions across much of the country. Ms Sturgeon initially announced the Scottish Government's decision on Monday, but urged for caution, particularly in Glasgow, saying, "I ask everyone to remember that although stable and starting to decline, cases in Glasgow do still remain high - so please continue to be cautious."

Cinemas, theatres, concert halls, music venues, comedy clubs and bingo halls are also expected to be able to open with restrictions if Glasgow moves to Level 2 tomorrow. Outdoor performing arts activities will also be reintroduced. Small outdoor and indoor events may be able to resume, subject to capacity limits.

One of the most significant changes to be introduced when restrictions ease in Glasgow is that meeting inside people's homes would be permitted in groups of up to four from two households. Six from three households could also meet in an indoor public space, while eight adults from eight households may meet outdoors.
