Nicola Sturgeon to give evidence at Alex Salmond Inquiry today

Nicola Sturgeon will today give evidence at the latest session of the Alex Salmond Inquiry.

The First Minister will be quizzed by committee members on what she knew about the Scottish Government's botched handling of complaints made against her predecessor - a chain of events that ultimately cost the taxpayer more than £500,000.

Sturgeon has previously said she welcomed the chance to give her version of events to MSPs and has strongly denied accusations she misled parliament over her meetings with Salmond.

The SNP leader is due to give evidence from 9.30am this morning.

The Tories yesterday accused the SNP leader of breaking the ministerial code more than 30 times over the handling of complaints against the former first minister.

Salmond gave evidence to the committee last week during a six-hour session at which he called for several senior SNP figures to quit.

A Holyrood committee is investigating the SNP Government’s botched handling of sexual misconduct complaints against Salmond when he was First Minister.

Salmond took the government to court and it was agreed the internal probe, which destroyed his friendship with Nicola Sturgeon, had been unlawful and tainted by apparent bias.

He was separately acquitted of sexual offences after a trial last year.

Salmond has accused named SNP figures, including Sturgeon’s husband Peter Murrell and Chief of Staff Liz Lloyd, of plotting against him to have him jailed.

The SNP and Sturgeon have denied the conspiracy claims.
