Nicola Sturgeon to give 'dates' for reopening Scotland's economy

Nicola Sturgeon will set out dates for lifting lockdown restrictions next week.

She confirmed to the Scottish Parliament that more details on reopening the economy will offer indicative dates and insists she "will not hesitate" to ease restrictions more quickly if the data supports it.

The First Minister also confirmed minor changes to outside gatherings in her statement to MSPs this afternoon, and announced easing of the rules to allow communal worship from Friday, March 26.

She said: "If the data allows us to relax more restrictions more quickly than we have previously indicated, we will not hesitate to do so.

"I'm well aware of just how difficult continued restrictions are - and I know that they get harder rather than easier to bear, as time goes on.

"I also know - because I feel this too - that the progress on vaccination makes us even more impatient to reach the end of this ordeal as quickly as possible.

"But I am certain that easing restrictions too quickly would be a mistake that we would regret."

From Friday this week four adults from two different households will be able to meet outside and rules have been changed to allow for outdoor exercise and non-contact sport in groups of up to 15.

Changes have also been made to give young people between 12 and 17 more opportunity to mix, with four from four different households able to get together outside from Friday too.

The First Minister also said that while travel restrictions cannot be lifted for adults, they will be eased slightly for children taking part in sport where their club may be "a bit outside" their council area.
