Nicola Sturgeon to decide when Scots schools will reopen not Boris Johnson

Nicola Sturgeon says she'll decide when schools will reopen in Scotland - not the UK Government.

The First Minister responded to growing speculation that Boris Johnson is considering getting kids back into the classroom at the beginning of June.

The Prime Minister will unveil his government's 'roadmap' out of lockdown next week.

And he said he wants primary school reopened "as fast as we can".

But Ms Sturgeon took to social media this morning to clarify Scotland's position after the Welsh Government tweeted: "The Welsh Education Minister will announce when Welsh schools will reopen, not the UK Government."

She posted: "Same for Scotland, @scotgov - in discussion with local authorities - will decide safe timetable for reopening schools.

"And we will keep pupils, parents and the public properly informed along the way."

The provision for education is devolved to the Scottish and Welsh Governments, in England is the responsibility of Westminster.

Welsh First Minister confirmed on the Andrew Marr Show today he is "talking about the beginning of June" to reopen his country's schools.
