Nicola Sturgeon has stated the Scottish Government will decide when Scottish schools reopen, not Boris Johnson or the UK Government.
The First Minister informed the public that they will make the call alongside local authorities, and will see "pupils, parents and the public properly informed along the way".
The FM was responding to a tweet by the Welsh Government, who stated that they too will decide when it is best for their children to return to school.
The tweet read " The Welsh Education Minister will announce when Welsh schools will reopen, not the UK Government", in response to an article from the Daily Telegraph stating that all UK children will go back to school in June.
The FM then replied to the Welsh Government's tweet in agreement, stating:
"Same for Scotland. @scotgov- in discussion with local authorities - will decide safe timetable for re-opening schools. And we will keep pupils, parents and the public properly informed along the way."
The provision for education is devolved to the Scottish and Welsh Governments, in England, it is the responsibility of Westminster.
Nicola Sturgeon's comments come as speculation increases that Boris Johnson will reopen schools by the end of June, if the rate of infection remains slow. The PM is set to set out his plans for moving forward next week.
Schools in Scotland have been closed since 20 March, as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
