Nicola Sturgeon to announce Scotland’s lockdown easing measures today

The first easing of Scotland's lockdown restrictions is expected to be announced today.

Nicola Sturgeon is scheduled to  address the country at 12.30pm where she'll lay out the timeline for the first part of four phase plan.

Top of the agenda is the relaxing of the rules to allow people to meet up with another household group outside, including in gardens.

And with the lifting of restrictions on sitting in parks and sunbathing included in the phase one plan, this weekend's mini-heatwave is perfectly timed.

It's also predicted the ban on golf, hiking, canoeing, outdoor swimming and angling will be lifted, along other with non-contact outdoor activities.

In all cases social distancing and hygiene measures must be adhered to and lifting on rules is also dependant on keep the infection rate, or 'R' number, low.

The First Minister is also expected to give the nod to garden and recycling centres to open and for some construction work to resume.

It's anticipated that much of the first phase will begin tomorrow, with any remaining elements falling in line over the following days.

Preparations to restart the housing market, gradual reopening of drive through outlets, a return of some GP services, elective medical procedures and IVF treatments are also included.

School staff will also return along with child minding services and fully outdoor nurseries.

There will also be an increase in number of children accessing critical childcare and transition support for pupils starting P1 and S1.
