Nicola Sturgeon to announce lockdown levels but warns don't expect too much change for Glasgow

Glasgow is likely to be placed in the second highest of Scotland's new five tier lockdown system.

Based on current restrictions, Nicola Sturgeon said the central belt is roughly equivalent to tier three, with the remainder of Scotland in tier two.

Speaking at her lunchtime coronavirus briefing today, she said further details of the criteria for each level will be laid out tomorrow.

The tiered programme forms part of the Scottish Government's strategic framework to be debated at Holyrood ahead of it's implementation on November 2.

The First Minister said: "Over the weekend we’ve discussed the framework with partners and considered further public health advice.

"These discussions are continuing, as are discussions with local councils.

"There are likely to be some clarifications to the detail of the levels we set out on Friday, so we’ll publish a revised version ahead of the parliamentary debate that will happen tomorrow."

Details of which tiers will apply to different area will be released by the end of the week, but Ms Sturgeon cautioned not to expect many changes to restrictions.

She added: "For many places there may be no immediate change. For an area to come down a level we want to see a fall in the prevalence of the virus, a substantial one, not just one or two days."
