Nicola Sturgeon will give a televised address tomorrow on the Scottish Government’s response to the Omicron covid variant.
The First Minister's TV appearance follow similar slots given to Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday and Labour leader Keir Starmer this evening.
It will come on the same day she is expected to announce new restrictions to prevent a “tsunami” of Omicron cases.
Health secretary Humza Yousaf all but confirmed on Monday that new curbs are on the way.
Sturgeon will meet her Cabinet colleagues on Tuesday morning to sign-off the next moves in response to the rise of Omicron.
She will then set out any changes to restrictions in a statement to the Scottish Parliament at around 2pm.
The SNP leader is also expected to explain how Scotland's vaccine booster programme will be ramped up.
The Scottish Government has mirrored the ambition of Boris Johnson by aiming to offer all adults a third shot of a covid vaccine by Hogmanay.
Scotland has recorded 26 confirmed new cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant in the past 24 hours, taking the overall number to 186.
Asked about more restrictions in response to the Omicron outbreak, Humza Yousaf said earlier: “I think it’s inevitable that we will announce additional, protective measures.”
It is the strongest indication that additional measures will be introduced, and follows comments by Scotland’s Deputy First Minister John Swinney that ministers were going to consider reimposing more restrictions, over the weekend.
Changes to the current coronavirus rules will be announced at Holyrood on Tuesday, Yousaf added.
Speaking about the impact on the health service of speeding up the vaccine booster rollout, Yousaf said: “We’re going to have to strain every sinew that we possibly can in order to ensure we meet (the target).
“That includes potentially having to move NHS staff away from other core duties to do this.”
Meanwhile, the UK Government has confirmed it is considering a request from SNP ministers for more military assistance in the booster roll-out.
A spokeswoman said: "Throughout this pandemic our military personnel have stepped up to help communities the length and breadth of the country.
"Our armed forces are continuing to support the Scottish Government with ambulance drivers, core NHS personnel and vaccinators.
"More than a hundred military vaccinators are working in support of Scotland's health boards at present and we are considering what further support might be required to help ramp up Scotland’s booster efforts."
