Nicola Sturgeon 'stands ready to work constructively' with PM Liz Truss

Nicola Sturgeon says she "stands ready to work constructively" with Liz Truss, after she was sworn in as Prime Minister on Tuesday.

The First Minister says she's willing to put political differences to the side, and that Ms Truss is welcome to join her for discussions at Bute House in Edinburgh anytime she likes.

Liz Truss will hold her first cabinet with her newly assembled top team this morning - before going head-to-head with Sir Keir Starmer at PMQs this afternoon.

Nicola Sturgeon appeared on ITV's Lorraine on Wednesday morning (ITV / Lorraine)

Speaking on ITV's Lorraine, Sturgeon said: "The new Prime Minister is welcome to come here to Bute House for discussions anytime she likes, Liz Truss is of course the fourth Prime Minister I have dealt with in my time as First Minister and I've welcomed her three predecessors here.

"What I would say is there are big really important issues for us to discuss - we have deep political differences, I think we can take that as read.

"But we've both got a responsibility and a duty to the people we serve to work together to try to find ways of getting the UK through the cost of living crisis.

"I'm very willing to take her as I find her." added Sturgeon.

"I don't expect there will be many areas where we come to a political meeting of minds - we have different views, different values... very different outlooks."
