Nicola Sturgeon sends message to America ahead of election results

Nicola Sturgeon has wished the people of America 'good luck' as millions go to the polls.

Votes are coming in tonight in the US presidential battle between incumbent Donald Trump and Democrat rival Joe Biden.

The First Minister tweeted about the election tonight- but did not back either candidate.

In her tweet she said that the result would matter for the whole world- with all politicians knowing the dread of the polls.

She wrote: "Every politician knows the butterflies in the stomach feeling as close of poll looms...even when it’s not our election.

"But of course the outcome of US elections matter to the whole world. Good luck, America"

Most polls have 77-year-old Biden to take the presidency from Republican Trump.

However many are wary of the results four years ago- where Trump pulled off a surprise victory against Hilary Clinton despite pollsters backing her.

With the coronavirus crisis there are expected to be more postal votes at this election potentially delaying the counting and the result.
