Nicola Sturgeon says Scots football fans will not have to show proof of vaccination to get into games

Scottish football fans will not have to show proof of covid vaccination status in order to attend matches from next month

Nicola Sturgeon announced a change in policy for mass events during her update on covid regulations to Holyrood.

The First Minister said that a recent negative test would secure entry to matches from the the 6th of December.

Until now proof of vaccination was required to attend mass events like football matches of music gigs.

Sturgeon said: “We have decided that from 6 December it will be possible to access venues or events covered by the scheme by showing either proof of vaccination, as now, or a recent negative lateral flow test result.”

Vaccine passports came into effect in Scotland in October and require nightclubs and large venues to only allow entry to people who can show they have been double jabbed.

Sturgeon told MSPs this will remain the case for at least the next three weeks but that, from December 6th, a negative lateral flow test will also allow entry.

Although the UK government ditched plans for vaccine passports the Scottish Government had forged ahead with the scheme which was attacked by some as a disproportionate measure which restricts liberty and undermines human rights.

Opposition parties and business leaders previously raised concerns over the vaccine passport scheme, with the Scottish Liberal Democrats calling for it to be abolished.
