Nicola Sturgeon said she would not “point the finger of blame“ at anyone for missing a vaccine appointment in Glasgow.
The First Minister said there would be a “number of reasons” for figures showing around half the coronavirus vaccine appointments at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro vaccination centre this weekend were missed.
There were many cancellations and non-attendances on Saturday and Sunday amid rising case numbers in the city which remains at level three lockdown.
Speaking at the Scottish government covid briefing on Tuesday the First Minister urged young people in the 18-29 cohort to make sure they registered for their first vaccine dose.
She said: “We can only vaccinate if everyone comes forward when they get that appointment letter."
"At some sites over the weekend, we saw quite a high level of non-attendance for appointments which had been scheduled, although it is important to stress the overall uptake rates remain incredibly high. "
“It’s also important to say that when people don’t attend, there will be a variety of reasons for this and some of them will not be down to the individual, so nobody is pointing any fingers here.”
“On the contrary, we all have to work together to make sure we get uptake rates and keep uptake rates as high as we need them to be. For all of us that means recognising that getting vaccinated is about protecting ourselves but it’s also part of our civic duty to each other.”
The FM urged people who had missed a covid jab for any reason to go onto the NHS website to arrange an appointment.
