Nicola Sturgeon says a foreign travel traffic light system may be on the cards this summer.
Current UK Government plans are for countries to be categorised either green, amber or red. Which category they fall into would hinge on their progress against coronavirus.
Anyone travelling to a green country would not be required to isolate on their return, allowing the prospect of overseas holidays once more.
As reported by the Daily Record, the SNP Government in Scotland is more cautious about people becoming infected with new variants overseas, and while Sturgeon is in favour of a four-nations approach she told the leader's debate she would only back the "right" system.
However in an interview with the Record she indicated she would be in favour of the principle of a traffic light system, but with some reservation.
When asked if she backed the idea, she said: "Yes, but with some scepticism and some concern that we have to be aware of the weaknesses in that.”
She added: “In time, you would want to move to that, but you’ve just got to be cautious about the risks associated with it.”
When asked if it might be possible this summer, Sturgeon said: "It’s possible, yes, and then you have the questions of which countries get categorised into which colour in the traffic light system.”
She also said there would be "difficult choices about international travel, how we prioritise family visits over holidays" – something that would not be "entirely straightforward to do".
