Nicola Sturgeon says books including 'Scabby Queen' and 'Lockdown' got her through 2020

Nicola Sturgeon has revealed the books that she says have gotten her through 2020.

The First Minister posted a picture of two piles of novels on her Twitter account with, as you'd expect, Scottish authors featuring heavily.

A big reading fan, she has previously posted about her love of new titles such as Scabby Queen by Kirstin Innes and Douglas Stuart’s Booker Prize-winning debut Shuggie Bain.

The selection also included classics like Alasdair Gray's Lanark and more appropriately, Abert Camus' The Plague.

Peter May's prophetic novel Lockdown also featured alongside the latest Scottish crime novels by Ian Rankin and Val McDermid.

The SNP leader wrote: "If, like me, reading novels brings you joy & helps you through tough times, here’s my Xmas round-up of those I’ve enjoyed most this year.

"First pile is general fiction and next some classics I’ve read/re-read. Not all of them were likely to take my mind off things..."

One follower stated that the First Minister had "done wonders promoting reading in our country", while others added some more recommendations for her to try out next year.

When Author Ian Rankin, whose Rebus novel 'A Song For Dark Times' was on the list was tagged, he responded that he was in "good company".
