Nicola Sturgeon has said she hopes all primary school pupils will be back in the classroom from March 15th.
The First Minister added that the final phase of school return could take place three weeks later.
School closures have been a key part of the covid lockdown imposed by Government before Christmas.
However, with infection levels falling and vaccination rates rising over the last month, a phased return of school pupils started on Monday.
Children in P1-3, as well as some senior phase pupils, were the first to go back.
Addressing MSPs, Sturgeon unveiled her route map for the easing of level four restrictions:
"The next phase of easing will be a minimum of 3 weeks later, so indicatively from 15 March.
"We hope that this will include the next phase of school return - which will start with the rest of primary school years, 4 to 7, and also getting more senior phase secondary pupils back in the classroom for at least part of their learning."
She added that a minimum of 3 weeks later - from the 5th April - she hoped the "final phase of school return" could occur.
