Nicola Sturgeon's level 4 lockdown announcement tomorrow - what it means for Edinburgh and Lothians

Nicola Sturgeon will reveal which areas in Scotland could be plunged into tier four restrictions tomorrow, leaving certain council areas in a March style full-blown lockdown, just before Christmas.

Much of West Central Scotland is 'likely' to be placed in the highest level of restrictions following tomorrow's lockdown review, according to reports in the Scottish Daily Mail.

According to the report, 12 local authority areas in Scotland are being considered for tier four, this includes Glasgow, the three Ayrshire councils, the two Renfrewshire authorities, West and East Dunbartonshire, North and South Lanarkshire, Inverclyde and Stirling.

It is possible that the March style regional lockdown could come into affect from Friday onwards, and this is what it could mean and how it would affect those living in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

A level 4 lockdown closes everything from restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars, non-essential retail, public buildings, gyms, leisure and driving lessons would be shut down in the run up to the Christmas holidays.

Although travel is already not encouraged between different regions under level three, Scots who try to travel in and out of level four areas with no essential reason could be handed a £60 on the spot fine.

Those who commute from Edinburgh and the Lothians into tier four areas could be affected, as many businesses will be told to shut down and encourage workers to remain at home.

Outdoor workplaces, construction, manufacturing, veterinary services and film and TV production are all able to remain open under tier three.

If you were heading to a wedding reception in an area plunged into tier four, this will be cancelled as Weddings or civil partnership receptions will not be allowed to take place under these restrictions.

Schools, colleges and universities would still be allowed to operate, with people still allowed to attend tier four education.
