Nicola sturgeon's husband sends sweet message to wake her up on 50th birthday

Nicola Sturgeon has got a good 'un, if you ask us.

The First Minister's husband took to Twitter this morning to ensure his wife's milestone birthday celebrations  kicked off in the ultimate style.

Peter Murrell shared a snap with followers this morning of the scenes at their home as Nicola wakes up to her 50th birthday today.

Showing off the massive rose gold 50th birthday balloons he had purchased for the occasion, he simply said "Wakey wakey".

The FM said she had been "overwhelmed" by the well wishes from people across the country.

In a tweet this morning, she said: "To say I’m overwhelmed by all the cards, flowers and good wishes I have received from across the country for my (ahem) 50th birthday, would be an understatement...so I just wanted to pop on here briefly (before hopefully staying away for the rest of the day!) to say thank you."

Despite the FM facing one of the most challenging periods of her political life due to coronavirus, last week the couple celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary.

Nicola Sturgeon shared a sweet throwback of the loved-up duo beaming on their wedding day in 2010.

Peter, who is Chief Executive of Scottish National Party, took to social media tweeting '3,653 days and counting...' alongside a stunning snap of their special day.

Retweeting her husband the next morning, the FM said '10 years' with a love heart emoji, melting her followers hearts.

That followed Peter joking that he had been 'dumped' by the First Minister after she enjoyed 'the sweetest reunion of all', in reference to her long-awaited visit to her hairdresser, Julie.

After months in lockdown without her trusted stylist, she had been relying on Peter to help tackle her locks instead.

The lifting of restrictions means Nicola will be able to enjoy her big birthday with some of her nearest and dearest as the country continues to ease into post lockdown life.

Scots took to Twitter to send their best wishes to the FM on her special day.

Kate Crichton said: "Happy birthday Nicola. You have shown Scotland and the world what proper leadership looks like. We are so grateful to you. Now have a lovely day off!!!"

Craig James Campbell said: "Happy birthday @NicolaSturgeon have a great day! Well earned."

Catherine Woolridge added: " Happy 50th First Minister! Hope that you enjoy a relaxing day with Peter and all your loving family - you very much deserve to. Thank you for being you and for your, and the Scottish Government's, superb governance - your work ethic is off the scale!"

Actor John Gordon Sinclair said: "A very Happy birthday to the best FM we all wish was the PM."
