Nicola Sturgeon's husband asked to give evidence a second time to the Holyrood Inquiry

Nicola Sturgeon's husband is facing a second round of questioning by MSPs after he was again invited to give evidence to the Holyrood Inquiry.

Peter Murrell, who is SNP chief executive, has been contacted after criticism of his answers on the use of the WhatsApp messaging service and meetings at his home.

A special Holyrood committee is examining how the SNP Government mishandled sexual misconduct complaints against Salmond.

The Nationalist veteran pursued legal action and it was accepted the internal Government probe had been unlawful.

The fiasco cost the taxpayer over £500,000 and destroyed the long-standing friendship between Nicola Sturgeon and Salmond, whose allies believe he was targeted by the Government.

A key issue for the Inquiry is looking at the contacts between Salmond and Sturgeon during the Government investigation.

The pair met at Sturgeon’s home in 2018 and also spoke on the phone. Murrell was asked about the meetings at his first oral evidence session.

Murrell was also asked about a WhatsApp group apparently convened after Salmond won the judicial review, and whether he has used the platform. He also denied being part of a plot to bring down Salmond.

After he provided clarification in writing, committee convener Linda Fabiani has requested further oral evidence.

She wrote: "The Committee still has questions it wishes to put to you and has therefore decided to invite you to give further oral evidence. We are currently finalising our remaining evidence sessions and anticipate hearing from you on either 26th January or 2nd February.

"This will be finalised by Thursday of this week but if you have particular difficulties with either of these dates please let us know as soon as possible.
