Nicola Sturgeon's Government announces no new coronavirus deaths amid 245 cases

There have been no new deaths from coronavirus in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

The Scottish Government confirmed 245 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Scotland since yesterday.

The deaths from a positive case remains at 2,505, while the total number of confirmed cases in Scotland rose to 24,371 since the start of the pandemic in late March.

There are currently 63 patients in hospital with 9 remaining in intensive care.

It comes after the Health Secretary said a decision on greater  lockdown  restrictions being imposed in Scotland will be made in the early part of this week.

Jeane Freeman, speaking on BBC Breakfast on Sunday, said the  Scottish Government  will have an announcement "very shortly" on any more restrictions.

Almost two thirds of Scots would support a second national lockdown if coronavirus cases continue to rise, according to a poll published last week.

The study carried out by YouGov spoke to 2,690 people across the UK about a possible return to restrictions seen over March, April and May.

Nicola Sturgeon previously hinted new national lockdown restrictions could be imposed if local measures fail to stop the growing number of Covid cases in Scotland.

Seven councils in the Greater Glasgow area currently have bans on social gatherings indoors but the SNP leader suggested similar rules could be rolled out elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Government is to receive its share of UK funding which could be used to give £500 to help people on low incomes self-isolate.

In a press release this morning, Boris Johnson announced help for people on modest means who face a loss of earnings if they find themselves in this position.

However, it was unclear from the announcement whether the £500 scheme would apply to Scotland.

UK Government sources have now said the scheme will result in funding being provided to the Scottish administration through the Barnett Formula.

Once the funding arrives, it will be up to Nicola Sturgeon's Government to decide whether to follow suit and push ahead with the £500 policy for Scotland.
