Nicola Sturgeon's demand for IndyRef2 'set to be rejected by UK Government'

Any demand from Nicola Sturgeon for a second independence referendum will be rejected by the UK Government, senior sources said yesterday.

The First Minister will make a statement to MSPs today about her plans for IndyRef2 in the wake of Brexit chaos.

A UK Government source said: “We have been saying for three years that Nicola Sturgeon should rule out the damaging uncertainty of an unwanted second independence referendum. We will continue to say that.”

Nicola Sturgeon expected to make statement on plans for Scottish independence

Sturgeon will give a “detailed and substantive statement setting out a path forward for Scotland” at Holyrood today.

Her official spokesman said she would aim to “strike an inclusive tone” and “explore some of the issues which have arisen because of the ongoing Brexit situation and Scotland’s constitutional future”.
