Nicola Sturgeon's decision on Covid-19 rule changes in Scotland to be confirmed on Tuesday

The First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will confirm her final decision on the Covid-19 rule changes tomorrow as a new European wave spreads.

The Scottish Government has considered the changes to restrictions in order to keep the virus under control and avoid a full blown lockdown.

She warned last week that Scotland currently has an “extremely high” number of Covid-19 patients in hospital.

Edinburgh continues to have a high infection rate with the latest data as of November 21 showing that there were 192 new cases of the contagion, and 1650 across the week between November 12 and 18.

Ms Sturgeon will deliver a statement at confirming any decisions at a media briefing tomorrow shortly after 2pm.

The main change being considered is the expansion of the Covid-19 certification scheme.

Proof of vaccination is currently only required for over 18s entering nightclubs, and large scale events - including unseated indoor events with more than 500 people and unseated outdoor events with more than 4,000 people, as well as any event with more than 10,000 in attendance.

The expansion would see this list include indoor cinemas, theatres, and some other licensed and hospitality premises like pubs and cafes.

However, the government has said they are also considering proof of a negative Covid-19 test as an alternative to this.

If the decision is made to make changes to the current rules, these will be implemented on December 6.

Meanwhile, protesters took to the streets of Vienna and other European cities over the weekend in violent anti- lockdown protests.

They are unhappy at new lockdown measures being introduced as a new wave spreads across Europe, with UK Prime Minister warning of the new Covid-19 variant “washing on our shores”

However experts moved today to reassure people living in the UK that because of the success of the vaccination programme they might be more protected than their European neighbours.
