Nicola Sturgeon's Covid lockdown address: Where and when to watch First Minister's statement on Scotland's 'Freedom Day'

Ayrshire and the rest of Scotland will learn later today whether Covid restrictions are to remain in place for longer than planned.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will address MSPs in the Scottish Parliament as the road map out of lockdown prepares to take another twist.

Ms Sturgeon is expected to address the rise in cases due to the surge of the highly infectious Delta variant.

It's expected that concerns around the daily figures could see lockdown easing pushed back by several weeks.

The Scottish Government had previously indicated its target was to move all of Scotland to Level 0 – the lowest level of restrictions under the framework – by June 28.

However, the decision could be delayed in a move similar to England's which was announced by Boris Johnson yesterday.

The Prime Minister confirmed England will not end its social distancing restrictions as planned on June 21 – with 'Freedom Day' pushed back to July 19 south of the border.

When will the announcement be made at?

Nicola Sturgeon will be addressing the Scottish Parliament to give a Covid update around 2.15pm today.

Where can I watch it?

The briefing will be broadcast live on the Scottish Parliament TV channel here or you can watch on BBC Scotland.
