An increase in the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Glasgow is under investigation.
Nicola Sturgeon revealed an additional 69 new cases have been confirmed in the last 24 hours.
She said the worrying rise is not connected to a single place or event, but to a result of multiple small outbreaks across the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health area.
Speaking at her daily press conference today, the First Minister explained: "One of the features of the cases we’ve reported in recent days is that not all of them appear to be linked to larger clusters.
“For example the figures in Greater Glasgow and Clyde seem to reflect a number of small clusters rather than one or two more significant outbreaks."
And asked if there is potential that Glasgow could be facing another lockdown, she responded: "We’ve got to be increasingly careful in using lockdown as a blanket term, these decisions have to be tailored to specific circumstances.
“What measures we take will depend on the nature of the transmission, whether it’s under control or whether it will run out of control again.”
Ms Sturgeon pointed out that the 160 confirmed new Scottish cases reported at today's briefing represents 0.9 per cent of those tested, up from the 0.7 per cent recorded yesterday.
