Nicola Sturgeon reveals "careful relaxation" of coronavirus lockdown in Scotland

Nicola Sturgeon says Scots will be allowed to meet people from another household from May 28 - as long as it is outdoors.

The First Minister set out her plan to get the country moving again this lunchtime.

Ayrshire's many golf clubs have been given the green light to open again under strict social distancing measures, while tennis, bowls and fishing will also be permitted.

And the public will be allowed to sit outside in parks and sunbathe while meeting with people from one other home - with social distancing strictly observed.

Stay at home measures will remain in place until next Thursday before phase one of the lockdown exit plan comes into force.

Teachers are to return to schools in June to prepare classrooms for their phased reopening.

The Scottish Government's guidance says: "We expect no public gatherings except for meetings of two households and only outdoors and with physical distancing."

Ms Sturgeon stressed that the threat of coronavirus had "not gone away - and will not go away in the near future."

The government document adds: "Consistent with the reopening of workplaces set out in this phase, where home working is not possible, businesses and organisations are encouraged to manage travel demand through staggered start times and flexible working patterns.

"You will also be permitted to travel short distances for outdoor leisure and exercise but advice to stay within a short distance of your local community and travel by walk, wheel and cycle where possible."
