Nicola Sturgeon coronavirus update: 123 new cases confirmed in the last 24 hours

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Scotland has risen by 123 in the last 24 hours.

New figures just published by the Scottish Government also reveal 251 people in hospital, five of them in intensive care.

The news bring the total number of confirmed cases in Scotland to 20,318.

Today's rise represents 0.7 per cent of newly tested people.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who yesterday insisted the rising number of cases is, in part, a result of increased testing, cautioned: "123 Covid cases reported today .

"The circumstances and any connections/patterns are being closely examined and Test and Protect is working hard to break transmission chains.

"While the increase is of course a worry, it is important to note the positivity rate below one per cent."
