First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said there are “no plans” for senior secondary school pupils to repeat a year as a result of lockdown.
She added that the Government is looking at “all ways” to support young people.
Schools are closed to the majority of children until at least the middle of February due to concerns over coronavirus levels. The timetable will be reviewed soon.
At the weekend, the Scottish Mail on Sunday reported that thousands of pupils could be forced to repeat a year.
The newspaper claimed assessments, which have replaced exams, could be put in hold due to some pupils not being ready.
It was claimed this could lead to senior secondary school pupils being back at school during the East break.
A source said the discussions are geared towards pupils not having to repeat a year.
Asked about the issue, Sturgeon said: “We have no plans at the moment to ask young people to repeat a year.
“We continue to look at all ways in which we can support young people during a very difficult time. And the SQA, Education Scotland, the Government of course keep the whole issue under review on an ongoing basis.”
