Nicola Sturgeon refuses Boris Johnson's new slogan insisting 'stay home' message critical

Nicola Sturgeon says 'Stay Home Save Lives' remains the message for Scotland in tackling coronavirus ahead of Boris Johnson's address to the nation.

The Prime Minister is set to tell the country to "stay alert, control the virus and save lives" when he reveals his "road map" to a new normality.

But the First Minister said the first she had heard of the "the PM's new slogan" was in newspaper reports and that she would not be changing tack "given the critical point we are at".

Sturgeon tweeted: "The Sunday papers is the first I've seen of the PM's new slogan.

"It is of course for him to decide what's most appropriate for England, but given the critical point we are at in tackling the virus, #StayHomeSaveLives remains my clear message to Scotland at this stage."

Johnson is to unveil five-tier COVID-19 warning system when he sets out plans to gradually ease the lockdown.

Akin to the scheme used to publicise terror threat levels, it will be used to alert the public over the virus risk and encourage adherence to the rules.

The PM will also call on workers who can't do their jobs from home to begin resuming their roles while maintaining social-distancing.

Tomorrow the Government will publish a 50-page document to MPs discussing the full plan to unlock the economy post-lockdown.

Yesterday the Scottish Government announced a further 36 people have sadly died on account of coronavirus in Scotland, bringing the total to 1847.

Meanwhile, in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde region, there has been a jump in positive cases of 34 from 3,333 to 3,367 as of yesterday.

The latest figures will follow this afternoon.
