Nicola Sturgeon receives vaccine letter and quips it 'softens the blow' of being 50

The First Minister is set to receive her coronavirus vaccine after months of leading Scotland’s response to the ongoing pandemic.

Nicola Sturgeon shared a picture of her blue invitation letter on Friday afternoon and joked that it helps ‘soften the blow’ of being 50-years-old.

The First Minister shared the exciting news on social media on Friday (UGC)

She is set to join the 2.3m other Scots who have already received their first jag while 279,814 others have now had both doses, the Scottish Government said.

Writing on social media, the SNP leader said: “My blue envelope has arrived (it really does soften the blow of being 50!)

“We’re on track to offer first doses to all over 50s, unpaid carers & adults with underlying health conditions by mid Apr and all adults by the end July (supplies permitting).

“My thanks to our vaccination teams.”

It comes as 543 new cases of Covid-19 were reported overnight in Scotland with an additional six deaths.

A total of 296 people are currently being treated in hospital for the bug with 26 in intensive care.
