Nicola Sturgeon has said she is “overwhelmed” at the cards, flowers and well-wishes for her 50th birthday.
The First Minister is celebrating turning 50 with husband and SNP chief executive Peter Murrell in Scotland, after plans to go on holiday for the occasion were curtailed by coronavirus.
In a post on Twitter, which ended with a love heart emoji, Ms Sturgeon wrote: “To say I’m overwhelmed by all the cards, flowers and good wishes I have received from across the country for my (ahem) 50th birthday, would be an understatement…so I just wanted to pop on here briefly (before hopefully staying away for the rest of the day!) to say thank you.”
On Sunday morning, Mr Murrell posted a tweet showing large, helium-filled balloons shaped in the number 50, captioned with a love heart emoji and “Wakey Wakey @NicolaSturgeon”
The pair have had a few celebrations over the last week, after sharing an adorable image of their wedding day to mark their ten year anniversary.

Last night a knitted tribute also appeared on the railings opposite Bute House, the First Minister's official residence.
Put together by a group of local friends and neighbours, the display was created to thank Nicola Sturgeon for her "consistent, tireless, competent, honest and humane approach" in dealing with coronavirus.
"We are so grateful for what she is doing for all of us and wish her a heartfelt Happy Birthday," one of the group said.
