Nicola Sturgeon opens up about her 'difficult' miscarriage and offers support

Nicola Sturgeon has opened up about her miscarriage and offered support to those who are going through the tragedy during this "very unusual time."

The First Minister spoke out on how she understands how tough a miscarriage can be in "normal times" and that it must be even more "difficult" during the lockdown.

She shared a link to the Miscarriage Association helpline and urged Scots to get in touch if they need "support right now."

The First Minister wrote: "Having been through this in so-called ‘normal’ times, I can only imagine how much more difficult it must be during this very unusual time....

"So the Miscarriage Association helpline may be an important resource for anyone out there who needs support just now."

In 2011, Nicola Sturgeon suffered a miscarriage with her husband Peter Murrell when she was 40 years old.

The First Minister told the Sunday Times Magazine that it was "obviously a painful experience" for herself and her husband.

She added: "Sometimes, for whatever reason, having a baby just doesn't happen - no matter how much we might want it to."

If you have been affected by the issue raised and need support you can visit the Miscarriage Association for support.
