Nicola Sturgeon named one of the UK’s most influential women in prestigious Vogue magazine

Nicola Sturgeon has been named as one of the top 25 most influential women in Britain according to Vogue magazine.

The high fashion magazine named Scotland’s First Minister among the women “who paved the way and continue to do so”.

The prestigious ‘Vogue 25’ list names the most ‘extraordinary’ women of the year, with Nicola Sturgeon, named on the 2021 edition among many other famous faces.

Included on the list is global fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, both Kate Middleton and Megan Markle, and actor Kate Winslet.

The magazine credited Sturgeon for winning a “historic fourth consecutive term at the Scottish Parliament election” and putting pressure on Boris Johnson for another Scottish independence referendum.”

Explaining why she made the list, Vogue said: “In May, the Scottish National Party, under the leadership of Nicola Sturgeon, claimed a historic fourth consecutive term at the Scottish Parliament election, with the highest vote share since devolution.

“Now, one seat shy of a majority, Sturgeon’s case for a second referendum on Scottish independence is growing ever harder for Boris Johnson to ignore.”

It’s not the first time Nicola Sturgeon has appeared in fashion bible Vogue as in 2015 she was given a makeover for a feature in the October issue of the magazine

She was photographed at the time wearing a floral skirt and short-sleeved jumper, which was a contrast from her usual sharp suits.

In her interview, she described some of the criticism she has received for her appearance during her time in politics as “hideous and quite cruel”.

She also admitted to being hard on herself at times saying: “Almost every day as I replay the day in my head, I think, I should have done that differently.

“I’m quite hypercritical of myself… It’s a very Scottish thing, always thinking that you’ve got to be that bit better than everyone else to be good enough.”
