Nicola Sturgeon lockdown update today as cabinet discuss tighter restrictions

Nicola Sturgeon is expected to provide a further lockdown update today with her cabinet due to meet to discuss whether or not to introduce tighter restrictions.

The First Minister will announce any changes this afternoon.

Click and collect could be restricted to essential retail only while there's potential for stricter rules for takeaway services.

Speaking on Monday, Nicola Sturgeon said: "I'm not trying to shy away from saying, because I said it last week, the kind of issues we will be looking at.

"Do we have to tighten up to reduce the number of people that are moving around any further? And I talked last week about reducing perhaps click and collect to essential retail only to maybe looking at putting further restrictions on takeaway.

"We've not reached decisions on these things yet, but these are the kinds of things we'll be considering at our meeting tomorrow and then I'll set out any decisions that we reach in the normal way."

The First Minister admitted any decisions to tighten current restrictions further won't be taken "lightly", as she reminded Scots of moves made last spring at the peak of the first lockdown.

She added: "We will be considering if any further restrictions are required and we won't take any of these decisions lightly, but I would appeal to everybody to just think back to how we all complied with lockdown last spring.

"That's really what we should be doing this time as far as possible as well."

Nicola Sturgeon's comments follow John Swinney's refusal to rule out further lockdown changes at Holyrood's Covid-19 committee on Friday.

The Deputy First Minister said transport data shows Scots are not following 'stay at home' advice as much as they did in March, which may result in further restrictions being introduced.
