Nicola Sturgeon lockdown update: FM confirms what she will announce on Tuesday

Nicola Sturgeon has outlined what she will announce at tomorrow's important lockdown update.

The First Minister says she will give an "indicative order of priority" for the gradual easing of coronavirus lockdown restrictions, however this will be driven by data and not dates.

Sturgeon will deliver the announcement to the Scottish Parliament shortly after 2pm on Tuesday.

She confirmed that she'll outline which parts of the economy could open up first, and when we could see a return to the geographical levels system across Scotland.

A revised "strategic framework document" will be published by the Scottish Government tomorrow, and Sturgeon said: "As I said last week, the framework will not set out hard and fast dates for the easing of all restrictions. As I indicated last week it's really important in this stage of the pandemic, particularly given everything we learned from the emergence of the first lockdown, that we driven by data more than we are driven by dates.

"However we will seek to set out tomorrow an indicative order of priority and the likely phasing of, firstly, the gradual lifting of the current lockdown restrictions, and then in due course a return to the geographical level system when we decide whether all or parts of the country maybe move out of level four down to level three.

"That's the point at which more parts of the economy would start to open up. This would be a cautious way forward because it's really important that when we come out of this lockdown we do so sustainably. We've got every reason to believe right now the lockdown is working, and all the indications are is that vaccination is having an impact as well.

"But we don't want to set back our progress. We don't want to face another lockdown. Sure and steady, even if it is a bit slow over the next few weeks, is how we want to proceed.

"As I've said before, in all of this there are hard choices to be made and we can't do everything all at once. So what we set out tomorrow will be very clear again about the priority we are placing on the education of young people, and getting young people back to school."
