Nicola Sturgeon lockdown update as First Minister announces new tier change

Nicola Sturgeon announced a new levels change for part of Scotland today.

The First Minister revealed that the Western Isles would move from Tier 4 to Tier 3 from 6pm tomorrow.

The Outer Hebrides will join Orkney and Shetland after considerably reducing virus prevalence in recent weeks and months.

Six of the main islands in the Western Isles include: Lewis, Harris, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist and Barra.

The update will be welcome news for Ayrshire residents and Scotland as a whole as lockdown restrictions begin to ease across the country as virus transmission reduces.

The First Minister also confirmed that from Friday collective worship for up to 50 people will resume as Easter approaches.

The announcement came as Ayrshire as a whole reported 30 new cases in the past 24 hours with 16,283 positive tests being detected since the pandemic began.

The number of people in NHS Ayrshire & Arran hospitals is 31 — four less than yesterday. ICU numbers remain below five.

There have been seven new deaths recorded across Scotland overnight, one of which was in NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

There have been 495 new cases have been recorded with the nation's total now at 214,383.
