Nicola Sturgeon lockdown tier update today as FM warns 'not to expect much change'

Nicola Sturgeon is set to give an update on the country's lockdown tiers today, although has warned Scots 'not to expect much change'.

The First Minister will speak at Holyrood this afternoon - with no daily coronavirus meeting scheduled - and will provide an update on the state of play in each of Scotland's regions regarding covid-19 and their lockdown levels.

The tiers are reviewed once a week - on a Tuesday - with any changes in the levels coming into force the following Friday.

Nicola Sturgeon's update is expected between 2pm and 3pm. However, the FM has signalled significant deviations from the current status quo across the country are unlikely.

At Monday's briefing, she said: “The overwhelming majority [of areas] will remain at their current level”.

The First Minister spoke as a further 949 positive coronavirus cases were recorded in Scotland, with 370 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde and 190 in Lanarkshire.

Nicola Sturgeon also urged caution with regards to the potential for lockdown easing over Christmas, adding she'd had discussions with the UK Government about a 'slight and careful' reduction in restrictions over the festive period.

As of last Friday, Glasgow remains in the highest tier of lockdown restrictions - level 4 - which means all restaurants and cafes are closed as well as non-essential shops and gyms.

Schools however remain open in tier 4.
